Special Exhibits
There are three categories under Special Exhibits for the 2012 QuiltFest. These are: Soft Sculptured Figures, Wearable Art, and Beyond our Horizons. None of the categories will be judged in the quilt categories, but voting for favorites will be by Viewer's Choice for each category.
PLEASE NOTE: The amount of available space and the number of entries received may limit how many pieces can be accepted into each category.
Soft Scupltured Figures
- A limit of four entries per person, as well as one group entry per person.
- Each figure must be at least 95% cloth; no facial masks or other body parts made of non-cloth materials, (Fimo, Sculpy, PaperClay, etc.) although accessories may be so constructed.
- Each figure may be supported with a free-standing prop, such as a chair, original “stage setting” or a commercial doll stand.
- Each figure must be the work of the artist; no commercial dolls allowed. Figures created by groups are encouraged.
- Signage for each figure should indicate the original source (pattern, kit, original design) and/or the inspiration for the work, as well as a short listing of any unusual techniques used (hand-dyed fabric, beading, etc.)
Wearable Art: Theme - "Tie One On"
- A limit of two entries per person.
- Using "Tie" as the theme, fabric used should be tie-dyed or neckties, or things that 'tie'.
- Wearable art items entered must have 10% minimum quilting and 25% of the "tie" theme.
- Must have at least two layers.
Beyond Our Horizons
- A limit of one entry per person, as well as one group entry per person.
- Must be primarily constructed from fabric and does not have to be quilted or bound or consist of three layers.
- May be as small as a postcard but no larger than 36"x36". A series of pieces can only be accepted if they are attached to each other and do not exceed 36"x 36" in total size. If mounted on stretch canvas, or a similar system, the piece cannot exceed 18" x 18". Ceiling mounted pieces cannot be accepted.
PLEASE NOTE: Displaying pieces that use a hanging device other than a sleeve, is new to the Guild. We will make every effort to hang all pieces entered, but if we cannot devise acceptable hanging mechanisms, the piece will not be displayed and the entry fee will be refunded.
Each Special Exhibit entry must fill out an Entry Form.
