For my niece Kacey’s high school graduation. Kacey wanted an autumn quilt. I saw Chris Hulin’s Autumn Fantasy, in Judy Martin’s "The Creative Pattern Book", and liked the movement she achieved by staggering blocks and turning them randomly. I found the Autumn Leaf block on compuquilt.com. I was ready to begin when Kacey said she wanted trees too! Using EQ6, I played with coloring the backgrounds to make trees appear. My first attempts were scary, reminiscent of the angry talking apple trees in The Wizard of Oz. Kacey loves her quilt and sleeps under it every night at college.
