Comments

My goal for this little quilt was to prove to myself that I could MIX machine embroidery and embellishment with hand embroidery and embellishment for a unique and interesting crazy quilt (despite skepticism from the traditional crazy quilters that I love stitching with)! Each block started with free-form (no patterns) machine piecing on muslin for block creation, followed by machine embroidery (2 elements per block); and then intense embellishment (I'll go as far as calling it "encrusting", hopefully not to the point of "gaudy") by hand. There are many "hidden" treasures. Each corner is an outward-facing fan. Spiders, ladybugs, dragonflies, butterflies and other wonderful creatures are abundant. Hand-dyed lace, silk ribbon flowers, hand-beaded cabochons, hand-made jewelry elements - you name it, I did it. Each block took many weeks of work, and it was a labor of love and total joy. Lace is predominant, and to accentuate this, I just HAD to add a little skirt onto the side. Take a look at the back... it's a giant crazy quilt block using all of the same fabrics as on the front. When people look at the back, I want them to say, "ooohhhh"! Hugs from Holly
