El Dia de los Muertos (All Souls Day) is a very special occasion in the Hispanic community as it is a happy day to honor loved ones who have died, yet have not left our hearts. This pattern, Labyrinth, features a star in the center, appropriate to the theme because stars bring light and brilliance, especially in the midst of darkness. Loved ones do the same, whether on this earth or not. The bright colors, depicted on papel picado-like fabric, evoke a sense of fiesta and happiness even when life is filled with directional changes. The outer border features smiling calaveras, friends, and family. I chose a saying by Leonardo da Vinci that points us to strive for a life well-used. The saying is embroidered in the shape of a circle because a circle has no beginning or ending. I wanted the words on the bottom panel to be 'upside down' so that the reader had to slow down, and hopefully, think about the meaning. Take a peek at the back; it features something we give to all loved ones.
