Great White Egret, Rockport is based on my favorite photograph that I have taken of sea birds at Rockport, Texas. Setting my camera for a fast exposure, I was able to capture the unbelievable grace of this magnificent bird as it took off and glided down to the water. I have heavily thread-painted the bird separately over a stabilized cotton fabric. The bird was then machine appliqued with clear thread onto the background with a little additional batting under the bird. The shore scene was made up of hand dyed and commercial batik fabrics, with some additional thread-painting and quilting.
