On Christmas Eve 2007, my little sister had a stroke. She was just 30-years-old and it came as a shock to everyone. After two weeks in ICU and two more weeks in the hospital, my sister was relatively back to normal. Six months later she was given a clean bill of health.
The whole thing shook up my whole family and definitely me. The youngest of seven is the one you would least expect to find in ICU. It took a while, but I finally decided what I needed to do, even though by then my sister was well into her recovery. I needed to make my sister a quilt celebrating her life to be given on the first anniversary of her stroke!
This is that celebratory quilt, given to my sister for Christmas 2008, and signed by all of the members of our family.
A few months ago my sister was hospitalized again, this time for a pulmonary embolism. She is okay again now, but will be on blood-thinners for the rest of her life. I hope this quilt also helped her through that ordeal. A giant quilt hug from all of us.
