"Contemporary Abstract Flowers" by Sharon Tomisak
This over-sized queen bedspread consists of eighteen 13" squares set on point, framed and sashed to create the feeling of looking through a window. All the flowers are hand-appliqued using 'Wonder Under' fusible interfacing to create a clean edge. Machine quilting includes the use of nylon invisible thread to outline the flowers and color coordinated cotton thread for 'stitch-in-the-ditch', stippling and free motion designs. It is made of all cotton fabrics and batting. A new fabric not used elsewhere in the quilt was chosen for the 4-inch border to bring all the shades of pink together and enhance this quilt. The pattern is an original design made to complement the master bedroom decor of soft pinks and greens. This quilt was intentionally made over-sized to accommodate a pillow-top mattress and four pillows. This is my second quilt and my first attempt at hand applique.
