I once joined a batik charm square exchange. I had fun cutting out my batik squares, but then had a bunch of left-over scraps - a lot of them were 5 inch crooked strips from the ends of rows. My batiks looked great together, so I decided right then and there to make a quilt top out of all my scraps and only these scraps. I knew it wouldn't be big, but figured a doll quilt for my girls would be great. I've seen all these "improv" blocks and decided to just go with the crookedness of the scraps. And I love it! The only fabric added to my scraps to make this quilt was the backing. In fact, I love this quilt so much that instead of giving it to my girls as a doll quilt, it hangs next to my sewing machine where I can look at it every time I'm getting creative.
