My Daughter, Samantha, took a series of pictures of these beautiful sunflowers during a summer visit to Oregon. It took some cajoling, but eventually she let me make a quilt based on her photography. The one condition was "that I didn't make it ugly!" I hope I met that condition. This is the first quilt in a series of three. I made a large template and started with 1 petal and worked my way around until all the petals were made, then a created the center to connect the surrounding petals. The Sunflower was then fused onto a "Confetti" background. The Bee was needle-felted and the wings were made of Angelina fibers sandwiched within Organza and then stitched. Raw edge fused applique, free-style machine quilting and thread play are used throughout.
