My daughter, Kaylea, was nicknamed "Kaylea Bear" as a baby. When we found out that she was pregnant, we referred to the baby as "Baby Bear". Then, we learned she was having twins and they became "The Cubs." It seemed only fitting that the first quilt I made for my first (and second) grandbabies would have a bear theme. This was a new hand applique technique for me and my first attempt at embellishing. Much of the embellishments are symbolic for my grandbabies specifically. For example, there are two baby bears on the quilt to represent the twins. Cambrie is nicknamed "Pumpkin", so there is a pumpkin charm at the end of her name in the center block. Callan is nicknamed "Monkey", so he has a monkey charm at the end of his name. At the bottom of their last name, there is a "Tinkerbelle" charm, which represents their great grandmother watching over them from heaven. Cambrie is a princess and has a bow on her head that reflects that. Callan is "all boy" and has baseball and football charms to reflect that. Finally, the name "GAMI" is spelled out with the blocks...that, of course, is me...their very proud grandmother!
