The appliqué in this quilt was begun in February, 2005, as I sat in my niece Kara's hospital room during her many days of treatment. The quilt was finished in January, 2008, three months after she went home to be with The Lord . She was 33. This quilt is named "Kara's Flower Garden" in memory of my loving niece Kara Herynk. I was blessed to spend time with Kara both before and during her illness. Kara did not quilt but loved the quilts I made. [I think her favorite quilt was a soft pink flannel rag quilt that I made for her and that she took to the hospital each visit. It was her 'comfort' quilt.] "Kara's Flower Garden" began as a block of the month from "My First Stitch" in Rosenberg, Texas, but I modified the baskets and added borders and more flowers to create the current quilt.
