The title of this quilt comes from a story told by 2006 show judge Scott Murkin. When he told it to me, I had a brainwave to use every possible type of 'quilt bling' and make a quilt that is attractive, yet overly embellished. He further challenged me to make it a miniature. Gratuitous means unnecessary or unwarranted. Thus, the quilt (pieced solely from dupioni silk) would look just fine without the embroidery, sequins, beads, crystals, paint, silk ribbon, needlefelting, tyvek, raw edge appliqué, or other embellishments. But then it wouldn't be any fun, would it? Now I challenge you... how many different types of 'quilt bling' can you find?
