Comments
This is my third quilt. I fell in love with the Japanese Daiwabo fabrics when I saw them my first time at the Houston show in 2003. The next year I asked my quilting mentor whether she thought I could make this quilt and she said "sure." I didn't know any better, so I signed up for this block of the month quilt. At that time I had completed only one quilt. I finished my second quilt while working on this one. I claimed this quilt was for my husband (secretly it was for me). It took me four years to complete. Since the quilt was not large enough for our bed, I added the "skirt" around three sides. I didn't see any point in wasting the wedges of the tumbler blocks that I had to trim off, so I used the leftovers in the skirt. I wanted the sampler feel to carry through to the quilting and selected several sashiko-style quilt templates for Janis to use in the quilting.
