When Match a Patch Bee decided to do a 'round the block' challenge, I selected Texas as the theme of my quilt and I made the first block. I received blocks twice a month for five months from the bee members. They gave me more Texas blocks the following year to celebrate my birthday. After adding a few blocks to the ones given to me, I decided on what I call a 'four patch log cabin' sashing and border block. What you see here today is the final result. Take time to study the various quilting designs created by Leslie Sparks: Bevo in the sky of the UT Tower, muskets on each side of the Alamo and a cannon below, conestoga wagons, oil derricks, cactus, and the rose of Texas, and steer holding a cowboy hat on the bottom row . This quilt was displayed in the Houston International Quilt Show 2007 Special Exhibit "In the American Tradition IV".
