In 1901, my great-grandfather James Levi Wood packed up his family and headed for the last great Oklahoma land rush. My quilt, Prairie's Garden, is a tribute to the spirit and the love of land that has kept Levi's farm in his family for over 100 years. The pattern represents their journey to turn the prairie into a home and a farm. I chose the colors of the prairie and the rich soil. The unconventional quilting reflects the miles of rocky terrain, rivers, lakes, and waterfalls they encountered in their journey.
