After the death of my dad, my precious grandmother Mammaw took in my four sisters and me when I was a newborn. She taught me to sew as a child and wanted me to learn how to quilt. She would give away her quilts to friends and family members. When she turned 91, she stopped quilting because of her failing eyesight. I never received one of her quilts. Realizing her time was short, I asked her if I could take some of her unfinished quilt blocks, learn to quilt, and make a quilt myself. I quickly signed up for classes at The Quilt Store, and the Double Wedding Ring class was one. I knew it was my grandmother's favorite quilt pattern, so I kept my quilt a secret and gave it to her in honor of her dedication to our family. With tears in her eyes, she told me how proud she was of my quilt. Before Mammaw passed away, she got to see her unfinished quilt blocks again, I hand pieced them into another quilt top that I will treasure forever.
